ESOL face-to-face CLASSES with Alexis

These sessions focus on helping learners build confidence in listening and speaking English, while developing essential vocabulary and sentence structures needed for everyday life in the UK. Through interactive activities and real-life scenarios, learners will practise communicating in common situations such as shopping, using public transport, visiting the doctor, and talking to neighbours or school staff. The only expectations are that students have willingness to learn and participate in a friendly, inclusive environment.

ESOL 1 and 2 online with Dominic

Topics in the course focus on the everyday lives , interests and experiences of the students. As well as this we cover topics of wider significance, for example immigration and politics in the UK. In recent courses topics have included travel and transport, nature and the environment, education and comparing on-line and face to face learning. In general I create my own materials or work in an unplanned (but structured) fashion and I am always willing to 'go off plan' to meet the needs and interests of students.

ESOL 3 online with Adela

Our online class focuses on building community and meaningful connections among students and teacher, whilst exploring themes central to students lives, and collectively learning language. Due to the fact that those seeking asylum in the UK are often moved from one place to another, the online nature of the class ensures that students can keep participating despite being moved to different locations. The class creates a space for students to share their views, experiences and feelings; bringing them closer together as they learn from, support and make each other laugh. We use open ended activities, which encourage discussion and provide space for students to share what is most important to them, whilst developing their fluency and ability to engage in conversations. Our teaching technique is one that draws on students' existing knowledge of the language, and enables students to share it with others, thus promoting learning and consolidation. A sense of togetherness, connection and humour fills the classes, even as we tackle themes that can be deep, painful and personal.
