MEET THE TEACHER
Bengali Absolute Beginners Online
This course is for absolute beginners who are new to Bengali language. It is designed to give you a taste of Bengali by a starter. Bengali (also known as Bangla) is an Indo-Aryan language. It is the national language of Bangladesh and an official language in couple of Indian states especially West Bengal.
You will be learning a brief history of the language and what it means by Bengali culture (Bangaliana), words and sentences for meeting and greetings, name of few everyday objects, eating and drinking(cha-nashta), name of the parts of body, days of the week and numbers (0-10).

Shamim Azad is a poet, a storyteller and a teacher. Born in Bangladesh, she came to the UK in 1990 to teach in the British primary schools. After her voluntary retirement from teaching at schools she completed few courses to become a freelance teacher for creative writing, storytelling and teaching Bengali as a foreign language at all levels.
She was one of the consultants for the project “British Empire, Migration and Belonging’ for Secondary Schools in the UK. Azad has published and compiledbooks in English and Bengali.
