The Yiddish Voice(s) of Y. L. Perets

Sundays 4:00 - 6:00 pm, UK time

There are few figures in the history of Yiddish literature more influential than Yitskhok Leybush Perets. A pioneering writer, folklorist, and social critic, Perets shaped modern Yiddish literature by interweaving folklore, religious thought and humour with the maskilic and progressive politics of modernity. Over six weeks, we will read his poems, short stories and non-fiction and discuss Yiddish literature through the works of its greatest innovator.
