Why does my neighborhood look the way it does? Where does our food come from? What are the effects of our actions when we decide to buy something online, buy organic foods or decide to engage in activism. What can explain the social trends that we are experiencing in the past years?

In both intermediate courses B1 and B2, we will engage these questions through interpretive, interpersonal, and presentational communication. What does that mean? It means that as we begin to understand the texts, videos, and other mediums we engage in class, we will talk and write in group settings about the various social, political, and moral issues about our everyday lives and how it translates to the lives of others.

We will make use and increase use of skills (Present, Past, Future tense uses) and increase our vocabulary while we learn more about:

    •    Music, Art, and media - How can art and its many forms be a tool for social change?

    •    Gentrification in UK and U.S - What does it mean, what are their effects and exploring their counterparts in Latin America.

    •    Activism in Mexico for indigenous and feminist rights for Communal Land Rights / Against accumulation by dispossession, femicide, the development of the carceral state

    •    Agricultural Capital, geopolitics and the Environment in U.S. Mexico relations and the Southern Cone (Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Uruguay)

Using film, short texts, news videos, articles, and social media, we will examine these themes from both at home and in the Spanish speaking world to further understand the world we live in and perhaps imagine a better tomorrow!
